Anthony Joshua could be a sky-high-profile addition to a potential fight between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr and UFC champion Conor McGregor.
The long-teased cross-combat bout appears close to being set up, with McGregor claiming to have signed off his side of the deal and goading undefeated Mayweather to do likewise.
Figures upwards of $100million have been touted as a potential purse for a fight between Mayweather, who held a perfect 49-0 record upon his retirement from boxing, and McGregor, the first man to simultaneously hold UFC titles in two different divisions.
Joshua left an indelible mark on combat sport with his 11th-round stoppage of Wladimir Klitschko in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley last month to add the WBA (Super) and IBO heavyweight titles to his IBF strap.
Joshua and Mayweather met at a press event on Sunday, with the American joking that he and McGregor would need a venue bigger than England’s national stadium, suggesting “a planet” as suitable, which prompted Joshua to quip: “Get me on the undercard!”
Asked whether his claim was genuine, a suddenly serious Joshua confirmed: “Yeah why not, that’s me. Listen that’s legendary s***, that fight will go in history.”
Las Vegas, scene of Mayweather’s triumphs over the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao, is expected to host the McGregor showdown.
Joshua recent fight against Wladimir Klitschko could go down into one of the fierce fight in history of boxing but the status in the history itself perhaps does not quite satisfy as people and many of the sportsman nowadays are eyeing for more than that.
It was not complete with out the records, the fame and the green bills that follows. For example, some of the match that was considered as a big match was not big enough if it does not break the record of pay per views. And this is what goes into the mind of the sportsman such as mcgregor and mayweather.
as it says, “it ain’t complete without the big bucks”
