Real Madrid’s new wonderkid, Arda Guler, is not “The Next Lionel Messi”. However, the 18-year-old Turkish passport player is said to be a midfielder who combines Real Madrid star Luka Modric and club legend Guti Hernandez.
As is known, Arda Guler has impressed at senior level for Fenerbahce in the 2022-2023 season even though he is still 18 years old. Inevitably, the wonderkid who was born on February 25, 2005 has been linked with a number of elite clubs such as Barcelona to several other Premier League clubs.
However, it was Real Madrid who emerged victorious in the race to recruit Arda Guler in the 2023 summer transfer market. Real Madrid officially completed the transfer of Arda Guler from Fenerbahce on a six-season contract.
Arda Guler’s confirmation of joining Real Madrid was announced via the club’s official website on Thursday (6/7/2023). The Turkish national team star is one of the highest-rated young players in Europe at the moment and is even nicknamed the ‘Turkish Messi’.
But recently, Fenerbahce’s chief scout, Serhat Pekmezi stated that Arda Guler is not The Next Lionel Messi. However, Arda Guler was billed as a mix of Guti Hernandez and Luka Modric by the scouts who discovered his talent.
“New Messi? They are very different. Güler would say that he is more of a mix between Guti and Modric,” said Serhat Pekmezi, quoting from The Real Champs, Wednesday (12/7/2023).
According to the statement above, Arda Guler is considered to have all the playing attributes like Guti Hernandez and Luka Modric, instead of Lionel Messi. In addition, Serhat Pekmezi predicts that Arda Guler will captain Los Blancos, nicknamed Real Madrid, in the future.
“He is very confident, has great ambition and has the ability to open up games. He will one day captain Real Madrid,” added Serhat Pekmezi.
For information, Guti Hernandez is a graduate of the Real Madrid academy and spent 15 years playing at senior level for Los Blancos. Meanwhile, Luka Modric is arguably the best midfielder of his generation and has won many awards during his time at Real Madrid.
So, if Arda Guler achieves even half of either of the two, the Turkish wonderkid is set to have a fantastic career. Previously, Real Madrid had also succeeded in recruiting the right young talents such as Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavinga, to Fede Valverde.
