Argentina VS Chile to open Copa America 2020

The duel between Argentina versus Chile became the opening match of the Copa America 2020 performance. The match between the two countries is a repeat encounter at the 2015 and 2016 Copa America finals.

Argentina became one of the co-hosts of the Latin American inter-country soccer event. The match itself will take place on June 12, 2020 at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires. The stadium is home to the Argentine League club River Plate.

Moreover, in 2020 COPA America, two countries will be guests of the tournament. They are Qatar and Australia.

In the draw on Tuesday, Australia was in Group A. Aside from The Socceros, the nickname for the Australian national team, residents of Group A were Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay. All matches in Group A are held in Argentina. The host cities for the group are Buenos Aires, Cordoba, La Plata, Mendoza and Santiago del Estero.

Meanwhile, co-host Colombia is the organizer of all matches in Group B. The residents of Group B are the defending champions Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Qatar, and host Colombia. The matches will take place in Bogota, Barranquilla, Medellin, and Cali.

Furthermore, the top four teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals. The competition in this phase was held in Cali, Barranquilla, La Plata and Buenos Aires. Then, the two cities, Medellin and Cordoba, hosted the semifinals.

The final match which is scheduled on July 12, 2020 was held at the Estadio Metropolitano Barranquilla, Argentina. Meanwhile, El Campin Stadium in Bogota is hosting the match for third place. The schedule is on July 11, 2020.

This tournament is the 47th edition of the Copa América. Thus, Copa America 2020 is the first time which the championship has been held with two hosts since 1983 through a home-away basis. The Copa America was first held in 1916. This is one of the oldest championships in the world in the continental category. Starting from this edition, the tournament will switch to be held every four years in even-numbered years, with the next edition taking place in 2024.

Throughout the event, Uruguay collected the most championship status. The score is 15 times. Followed by 14 times champion is Argentina. Moreover, in the third row of champions title holder was Brazil. Brazil is 9-time Copa America champion.
