Mikel Arteta said maintaining momentum was the key to Arsenal’s big win over West Ham United. According to him, it is not only the Gunners – Arsenal’s nickname – who are trying to maintain momentum to continue winning, but other teams are also doing it.
Arsenal managed to achieve a big 6-0 victory over West Ham Unitef in the 24th match of the 2023/2024 Premier League. The duel between the two London, England teams took place at the London Olympic Stadium, Sunday (11/2/2024).
William Saliba (32′), Bakayo Saka (41’P), Gabriel Magalhaes (44′), and Leandro Trossard (45+2′) put Arsenal ahead in the first half. Then, Bukayo Saka (63′) and Declan Rice (65′) closed the Gunners’ victory party.
Even though they managed to achieve a convincing victory, Arsenal has still not moved from third place in the standings after collecting 52 points, the same as Manchester City in second place. Arsenal and Manchester City are two points behind Liverpool who are in first place.
Meanwhile after the match, Mikel Arteta said that Arsenal was maintaining and building momentum so they could continue to get good results in every match. This was also the key to a big win over West Ham United.
“We are maintaining and building momentum at the moment, and the performance is very good, as are the results in the last few weeks,” said Mikel Arteta, quoted from Arsenal’s official website, Monday (12/2/2024).
Furthermore, Mikel Arteta said Arsenal must be able to maintain momentum because other teams are also doing it. However, he does not want his team to get caught up in the victory over West Ham and will focus on the next match.
“We need to maintain that because other teams are also doing the same thing, we are not the only ones, and we need to be aware of that. Now, (we will focus) on Burnley,” he explained.
While facing Burnley in the 25th Premier League match which took place at Tur Moor Stadium, Saturday (17/2/2024), Arsenal had a big chance of winning. Because, in the last five Premier League matches, Burnley has not won.
