Mikel Arteta has admitted that Arsenal need to sign another midfielder before the transfer window closes due to the injury of Mohamed Elneny.
“The ideal case is that we can find someone to share the burden in midfield. Given the current state of the market, it’s not easy to do that. If there’s a deal that can make Arsenal strong. up, we’ll definitely pay attention,” Arteta said.
“The most important thing is that we get the performances and the time on the pitch that we need with the players we have available today that are already really good.” Arteta added.
Elneny’s injury means Sambi Lokonga is the only backup for Thomas Partey. However, the Belgian player himself has not shown convincing since moving from Anderlecht.
Elneny was not named in Arsenal’s matchday squad for the 3-2 win over Manchester United, with the Gunners recently linked with a move for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Everton’s Amadou Onana.
According to reports, one of Arsenal’s favourite players is that of Leicester and Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans.
The 24-year-old player has stood out in the English Premier League team, and was one of the main players in the FA Cup title campaigns, in the 2020-21 season, and the FA Super Cup, in the current season.
Arsenal also targeted Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, who has established himself as one of La Liga’s best midfielders in recent times.
Arteta’s side to face Everton, which will take place on Saturday, February 4th, 2023, at Goodison Park in the Walton area of Liverpool, England.
Arsenal are going through a reconstruction moment under Arteta, hired at the end of 2019. They currently lead the Premier League by five points after a stellar first half of the season, winning 16 of their 19 league outings, losing just once in the process.
