Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta, is very happy that his team was able to humiliate Sheffield United 6-0 in Week 27 of the 2023-2024 Premier League. He said this victory was about the team’s dominance and aggressiveness.
Arsenal defeated Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, Sheffield, England on Tuesday (5/3/2024). Playing dominantly from the start of the match, the Gunners were able to score six goals without reply.
The six goals each came from Martin Odegaard (5′), an own goal from Jayden Bogle (13′), Gabriel Martinelli (15′), Kai Havertz (25′), Declan Rice (39′), and Ben White ( 58′). This is the third time Arsenal have scored five or more goals in consecutive away matches in the Premier League.
After the match, Arteta was happy that his team had been able to show their strength at the start of the first half. The Spanish coach said this big victory was achieved due to aggressiveness at the start of the match.
“What a night, this is a very difficult place to be in, but the way we started the match clearly made a difference,” said Arteta, quoted on Arsenal’s official website, Tuesday (5/3/2024).
“We were very aggressive, very positive and we showed real quality, especially in the final third to get the game into a position very much in our favor and then defend it. “We maintained the rhythm, the hunger and I liked it,” continued the 41-year-old man.
Furthermore, Arteta emphasized that the six goals scored were not accidental. He revealed that Arsenal players had been instructed not to feel satisfied with every goal scored in the match.
“Again, obviously it happened early in the game. “This is the Premier League, you know the level of your opponent, and you can’t be complacent,” said Arteta.
“Internally speaking, that level of demand is what I see every day in practice, they push each other and try to make each other better and chemistry is very important to have a chance of achieving what we want,” he concluded.
This landslide victory ensures that Arsenal continues to put pressure on Liverpool on the path to competing to win the 2023-2024 Premier League. The Gunners have now collected 61 points from 27 matches, two points different from the Reds at the top.
