Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United have already secured their place in the 2024/2025 Carabao Cup semifinals. Three teams have already secured their place in the semifinals and are now just waiting for one remaining slot. The remaining slot will be contested by Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
The Tottenham vs Manchester United duel will be held at Tottenham Stadium, Thursday (19/12/2024) evening local time. The Carabao Cup semifinal draw will be held after the Tottenham vs Man United match ends.
Arsenal qualified after eliminating fellow London team, Crystal Palace. The Gunners won narrowly 3-2 over the visitors at the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta’s team unexpectedly fell behind first in this match. Palace was able to take an early lead thanks to Jean Phillipe Mateta’s goal when the match had only been going on for four minutes.
It took Arsenal 50 minutes to equalize. The long-awaited goal was scored by Brazilian striker, Gabriel Jesus.
Jesus even managed to score two additional goals, aka a hat trick, in the 72nd and 81st minutes. Palace managed to reduce the score to 2-3 through Eddie Nketiah’s goal, but Arsenal were able to maintain their lead until the match ended.
In another match, Liverpool, who had to travel to Southampton’s headquarters, St. Mary, were also able to return home with a narrow 1-2 victory in their hands. Both Liverpool goals were presented by Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliot.
Darwin Nunez opened the scoring with his goal in the 24th minute. Eight minutes later, it was Harvey Elliott’s turn to score against The Saints.
Southampton managed to reduce the deficit after Cameron Archer managed to score against Caoimhin Kelleher. However, Liverpool were able to maintain their lead until the match ended and ensured their qualification to the Carabao Cup semifinals.
The Newcastle United vs Brentford match was no less exciting. Sandro Tonali was the star of Newcastle United’s victory over Brentford. Tonali scored two goals and led Newcastle to a 3-1 win in the match.
