Former Liverpool defender Dominic Matteo has insisted AS Roma’s Champions League mission is over, despite suffering a humiliating 5-2 trashing at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Liverpool, who led 5-0 at the entrance of the last fifteen minutes, conceded two goals at the end of the game. In spite of this big defeat, the Roma will be tough to comeback this week.
Mohamed Salah is on fire, for almost 80 minutes, Liverpool left no chance to Roma’s players. The Egyptian transferred this summer to Liverpool from Roma, he has again been the big guy side for the Reds.
Salah, voted best player in the Premier League, had no mercy for his former teammates with one double and two assists.
“Liverpool were incredible they could have had seven or eight goals. The two late goals were a bit of a disappointing but when you’re caught in that atmosphere and euphoria, they might have got caught up in it.” Matteo said.
“I think the tie is over. Roma already had their 3-0 against Barcelona and hopefully history will not repeat itself. I think Liverpool will score away.
“I’ve watched a lot of Rome this year, doing bit of work for Italian football. They blow hot and cold, catch them on a good day and they are very good, catch them on a bad day and it was like what happened in the first leg. Liverpool may have too much for them and I see Liverpool going to the final, most definitely.” Matteo added.

Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich 2-1 away to take control of semifinal at Allianz on Wednesday night. However, whoever Jurgen Klopp’s side opponents are in the final, they should think two times to beat Liverpool.
“It doesn’t matter who you are, that front three will give anyone a tough time. Mane’s hitting from again, he had a bad period a little while. Matteo said.
“Firmino for me is the best, the key, the link man and very difficult to mark. Defence is the weakness for all the teams that are left. The way Liverpool are playing, Madrid would fear them, so would Bayern.” Matteo added.
Liverpool will be wary in the second leg next on May 3, knowing that another 3-0 win would see the Italian Serie A side pull of another stunning comeback.
