Arsene Wenger refuses to get involved in the debate over who is the best between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. In the debate over who is the greatest between the two players, the former Arsenal boss doesn’t want to say much.
On Tuesday 28 February 2023, Lionel Messi won the 2022 FIFA Best Player award, something that was actually not surprising. The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star has been named the best player in the world after appearing consistently throughout 2022.
This prestigious award was obtained after Lionel Messi led the Argentina national team to win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. This achievement completes the trophy collection for the superstar who has previously won all the tournaments or competitions he has participated in.
At the end of this year, Lionel Messi is likely to get his eighth Ballon dOr award, as well as making him three trophies ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. Apart from much debate, in fact since November 2022 when Cristiano Ronaldo was released by Manchester United, many have considered that the comparison between CR7 and Lionel Messi is inappropriate. Coupled with Lionel Messi’s success in winning the 2022 World Cup.
However, Wenger disagreed and refused to give his opinion on the debate. The man from France said Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo had proved how beautiful the sport was with their achievements.
“When they won’t be there anymore (competition at elite level), we will realise what they have given us,” the former Arsenal boss said at the FIFA awards, quoting from Sportibible, Wednesday (1/3/2023).
“I always refuse to make statements because they are two different players,” Wenger added.
“Completely different players, but two extraordinary players who have shown the world for 15 years.” Currently, Cristiano Ronaldo plays for the Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr Meanwhile, Lionel Messi is entering the end of his contract with the French League giants, PSG, which ends on June 30, 2023.
