Aston Martin set for F1 debut in 2021

Aston Martin are reportedly interest the discussions for the next engine supplier for F1 in 2021. They have been monitoring for several months.

Speaking to BBC, Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer said if the discussions continue in the right direction with the engine manufactures already involved, in the coming months.

According to report, Aston Martin has a relationship with Red Bull and suggested they probably become the team’s title sponsor for next year. As we know, the energy drink company has carried Aston Martin’s logo since 2016.

“My position has shifted from a position where I will not be proposing to our board of directors to go into F1 a position where I will probably advise to go, if things move in the right direction from there” Palmer said.

“I’m negotiating what we look like in the sport for next year but it’s somewhat predicated on what the 2021 engine regulations look like.

“The current rules were boring for the public and didn’t encourage them to continue to follow F1. You have to make the sport exciting again, put the driver back at the center of the sport, and today it’s mostly a turbo or something else.

“I’m an engineer, I love technology, but people are not there to talk about nuts, we have to get back to the sport I loved 40 years ago, and it’s not just a matter of driving.

“How do you explain to a fan that a driver has 35 penalty places when there are only 20 cars on the grid? There is nonsense. We must not to talk about sound, unreliability, incomprehensible penalties.” he added.

The iconic luxury British sports cars have not competed in F1 since 1960, their interest in a return comes at time when it is uncertain who will be engine supplier for Red Bull from 2019.

“For marketing reasons, like Red Bull obviously, our intentions line up and we love the sport. I talk to the board regularly but then I’ll start to heat a little more!” Palmer said.

“If we can get more theatre back into the sport, and if we can reduce the cost of the engine, the Aston might be interested in producing an independent engine.” the 54-year-old man added.
