Aston Villa and Chelsea had to settle for sharing the points after drawing with a score of 2-2 in the match week 35 of the 2023/2024 Premier League which was held at Villa Park, Saturday (27/4/2024).
Aston Villa took a two-goal lead until halftime through Marc Cucurella’s own goal and Morgan Rogers’ action. However, Chelsea recovered in the second half and equalized the score thanks to goals from Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher.
Thanks to this result, Aston Villa is still stuck in fourth place in the standings with 67 points. Meanwhile, Chelsea, who have only played 33 times, is in ninth place with 48 points.
The match had only been running for four minutes, Chelsea had bad luck after Cucurella even scored an own goal when he accidentally touched the ball and it went into his own team’s goal.
Chelsea actually scored the equalizer in the 16th minute through the action of Nicolas Jackson. However, this goal was disallowed by VAR because there had been an offside earlier in the process.
Instead of catching up, Chelsea fell further behind after Rogers doubled Aston Villa’s lead with a goal in the 42nd minute. The 2-0 score lasted until halftime.
Returning from the dressing room, Chelsea tried to increase the intensity of their attacks. The result was obtained in the 62nd minute, Madueke successfully broke into Aston Villa’s goal which was now being guarded by Robin Olsen.
Chelsea is even more enthusiastic about catching up. As a result, Gallagher managed to equalize the score in the 81st minute, this time Madueke acted as the assist provider.
When five minutes of second half injury time had passed, Chelsea scored a goal through Axel Disasi’s header. However, VAR and the referee disallowed this goal because there was a violation first.
