Australian MotoGP Results 2022: Alex Rins Wins, Marquez Completes 100 Podium, Quartararo Crash

Alex Rins (Suzuki Ecstar) dramatically emerged as the winner of the Australian 2022 MotoGP race. On the other hand, the reigning MotoGP World Championship champion, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha), failed to finish while Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) successfully completed his MotoGP podium collection to 100.

MotoGP Australia is the 18th race of the 2022 World Championship which took place at the Circuit Phillip Island. Alex Rins performed very brilliantly because he managed to win the race even though he started from 10th. This is Alex Rins’ first win at the 2022 MotoGP World Championship.

Moreover, by finishing second, Marc Marquez is now the fourth rider to touch 100 podiums in MotoGP history. Marquez follows in the footsteps of three living MotoGP legends, namely Valentino Rossi (199 podiums), Jorge Lorenzo (114) and Dani Pedrosa (112). The Australian MotoGP 2022 results at the same time ended Marquez’s 357-day fast without getting on the podium.

Meanwhile, Quartararo as the MotoGP world champion last season had bad luck at the Phillip Island Circuit. Quartararo, who started the race from fifth, had slipped to 22nd on the fourth lap after making a braking error at Turn 4. Right on lap 14, Quartararo had a low-side crash at Turn 2. That incident caused Quartararo to fail to finish. This is the third time in the last four races Quartararo has not scored a point in the World Championship.

MotoGP Australia 2022 review:

Marc Marquez is the only rider to use a soft rear tyre. Jorge Martin (Pramac Racing) as the owner of the Australian 2022 MotoGP pole position successfully maintained his leading position at Turn 1. Jorge Martin continued to lead at the beginning of the second lap followed by Marquez, Bagnaia, Aleix Espargaro, and Fabio Quartararo. At the beginning of the third lap, Jack Miller successfully overtook Quartararo to take over the fifth position.

Right on the fourth lap, Quartararo slipped to 22nd after wide at Turn 4 or ‘Miller Corner’. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin managed to maintain the leading position followed by Marquez and Bagnaia until the seventh lap. At the beginning of the 8th lap, Bagnaia had to drop to fourth position after being overtaken by Alex Rins (Suzuki Ecstar).

Right on the 9th lap, Jack Miller was immediately thrown off the track after being hit by Alex Marquez (LCR Honda) at Turn 4. Not long ago, Quartararo crashed low side after losing grip on the front tire when trying to pass at Turn 2. Two incidents above made Jack Miller, Alex Marquez, and Quartararo unable to continue the race.

Right on the 14th lap, the five riders in the front row, Martin, Marquez, Rins, Bagnaia, and Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Racing) maneuvered each other. Bagnaia then successfully took over the lead of the race at the beginning of the 15th lap followed by Marquez, Alex Rins, Bezzecchi, and Jorge Martin.

The competition in the front row grew fiercer on lap 20 after Alex Rins overtook Bagnaia and Bezzecchi smoked Marquez. Bagnaia managed to regain control of the race not long ago. Bagnaia took the lead on lap 23 followed by Bezzecchi and Alex Rins. Rins then overtook the Italian rider dramatically on the last lap. At least, Bagnaia has now taken over the lead of the World Championship standings from Fabio Quartararo with two races remaining. Bagnaia leads with 233 points, 14 ahead of Quartararo.
