Serena Williams on Thursday broke down in tears after losing to Naomi Osaka in 2021 the Australian Open Semifinals.
The 39-year-old tennis player left very frustrated because she will not be able to fulfill her dream of winning the Grand Slam title for the twenty-fourth time , thus equaling Margaret Court’s record.
Williams, who a few years ago was the best in the world, began to cry, apologised and left the press conference immediately.
“I wouldn’t say I was nervous, I was just very erratic. I’ve made a lot of mistakes with the right. I don’t know, if I ever say farewell, I wouldn’t really tell anyone.” Serena said.
Willians admitted that she had a bad afternoon and made a lot of mistakes during the match before she lost 6-3, 6-4 to Naomi.
“The difference today was errors. I made so many errors today. It was opportunities where I could have been up 5-0 and I just made so many errors. I had a lot forehand unforced errors. It was a big error day for me today.” Williams said.
“I felt well, I was hitting well this whole tournament. Even the first couple of games I played well and there were so many opportunites.” Williams added.
Hours later Williams posted an emotional message on her Instagram account , in which she thanked all the love she has received from fans, especially those in Melbourne.
“Melbourne and my Australian fans. Today was not ideal outcomeor performance but it happens. I am so honoured to tbe able to play in front of you all.” Williams posted.
“Your support, your cheers, I only wish I could have done beter for you today. I am forever in debt and grateful to each and everyone single one of you.” Williams added.
