Francesco Bagnaia reveals the reason behind the confusing decision regarding the Desmosedici Ducati GP24 motorcycle ahead of the 2025 United States MotoGP.
Bagnaia is in the shadow of Marc Marquez at Ducati. In the first two series, Marquez managed to sweep wins in MotoGP Thailand and Argentina. Meanwhile, Bagnaia failed to get on the podium at MotoGP Argentina.
After the MotoGP Argentina race, Bagnaia made a surprising statement. The two time MotoGP world champion will return to using the Ducati Desmosedici GP24 motorcycle.
“Maybe from the next race I will return to the GP24, because right now I have a very strange feeling with the GP25,” said Bagnaia at that time.
Bagnaia’s comments were quite surprising, because the GP25 is very similar to its predecessor, after Ducati decided to ditch the 2025 engine. In addition, Ducati continues to use the 2024 chassis and aero kit until the start of this season.
Ahead of the 2025 United States MotoGP, Bagnaia retracted his statement regarding the GP24. The Italian rider claimed he misspoke, unable to convey what he wanted to say in English.
“Unfortunately, I’m not very good at explaining things in English, maybe. Because what I want to say is I want to go back to my feeling with the GP24,” said Bagnaia.
“I don’t want to go back to the GP24, also because it’s impossible. So, I know the new bike has better potential, Marc Marquez showed it. So, I just need to focus and find my feeling again,” said Bagnaia.
Entering the MotoGP America, this weekend, Bagnaia is 31 points behind Marc Marquez at the top of the standings. Bagnaia is aware that he must be able to find his best rhythm using the GP25.
“When I analysed the performance, I was not focused enough on the corner entry, the corner entry speed. That is a very good point of my riding style. So, we have to focus on that and try to improve,” said Marquez.
Last season, Marquez actually led the race at the United States MotoGP. However, he crashed on lap 10 while leading Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta.
