Barcelona and Real Madrid Against Trip to Dubai to Talk about the Spanish League

Barcelona and Real Madrid have refused to travel to the United Arab Emirates to discuss internal matters in the Spanish League.

Both clubs will miss the General Assembly convened by the Spanish football league, La Liga, for December 7, in Dubai, the two clubs announced on their official pages.

The general meeting was convened by the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, with an urgent character, but will not count on the participation of the two clubs, who have shown their disagreement with the decision.

According to reports, Real Madrid classifies as illegal, unjustifiable, inappropriate and inconsistent the convening of an extraordinary general meeting for December 7 in Dubai, for which reason it decided not to send any representative.

Barcelona said they not believing that it is appropriate to make this trip to Dubai, for an event that could very well be held at the headquarters of La Liga, further expressing its opposition to any action that it considers harmful to the rights and interests of FC Barcelona.

“FC Barcelona’s position has always been that of reaching consensual agreements after having examined the issue coherently and respecting all positions,” the statement read.

“For that reason, we do not believe it is the right time to travel to Dubai for an event which could well take place at LaLiga’s headquarters and once again we show our opposition to any form of action that we consider damaging to the rights and interests of FC Barcelona.” Barcelona added.

For both clubs, the extraordinary meeting in the United Arab Emirates is yet another irresponsible action by the president of La Liga, which will have an unjustifiable and unnecessary economic cost.

“It is totally inappropriate and deeply incoherent that La Liga makes more than 100 people travel to hold an event of this nature, on these dates, to the United Arab Emirates, when it could take place at its headquarters, without incurring extraordinary costs.” Tebas said.

The refusal to take part on December 7  meeting shows, once again, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona united against Javier Tebas, similar to what happened in the issue of the creation of the Superliga.
