Barcelona on Friday has made a press announcement on their site to address the issue of one of their best players of all time making an exit from the club.

“Despite having reached an agreement between FC Barcelona and Leo Messi, with the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract, it can’t be formalised due to economic and structural obstacles related to La Liga regulations. Due to this situation, Messi will no longer perform for Barcelona.” Barcelona said in a statement.
“The parties deeply regret that the desire of the club and the player will not be fulfilled. Barcelona sincerely thanks the player for his contribution to the development of the club and wishes him all the best in his personal and professional life.” Barcelona added.
Messi and his agent and father Jorge Messi on Thursday arrived in Barcelona to discuss the matter. Optimism reigned in the club and in the media every now and then there were messages about the upcoming announcement of the signing of a new contract.
Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly already making progress in talks to sign Messi. The club have been pushing for the Argentina international since Thursday.
“Regarding Lionel Messi, we will saw what happened yesterday, but I won’t say anything other than that we are focused on beating Troyes [on Saturday] and starting the season well.” PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino said.
“At the same time our sporting director and president are working hard to improve the team in whichever areas we can.” Pochettino added.
