Superstar striker Lionel Messi has reportedly told Barcelona FC that he wants to leave the club, according to Spanish media Marca.
Messi has sent the club a document expressing his desire to leave after their humiliating 8-2 defeat by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals. The captain’s performance were actually pretty good until famous elemination by German champions.
If Messi was made available to purchase in the summer transfer market then he would surely attract a number of admirers. At 33, he remains one of the best footballers on the planet, despite his age.
Barcelona on the other hand, it sounds like they will put up a fight to keep hold of Messi, despite ongoing links to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Catalan clubs board appear to be refusing to engage in talks over Messi departing which suggests a hardline stance that they will not sell him this summer.
Pogba is contracted to Barcelona and needs to respect his current deal. Under the terms of the contract, which expires in 2021, the only way the Argentine can leave is if any club pay his release clause of 700 million euros.
Through social media twitter, the former Barcelona supterstar Gary Lineker, gave his strong opinion, it would be a terrible if Messi is to leave Camp Nou with a fight.
“If Messi is to leave Barcelona by activating a release clause, then I hope the club try to help, not hinder him.” Lineker tweeted.
“He’s been fiercely loyal and their greatest ever player. It would be terribly sad if it finished with a fight between the player and the club.” he added.
Messi played extremely well last season with 25 goals and 21 assists, but failed to help Barcelona win the La Liga and Champions League titles.
