Lamine Yamal admits he wants to wear the number 10 jersey at Barcelona. According to him, this iconic number is every player’s dream.
Even though he is still 16 years old, Yamal has become an important figure in the Barcelona squad after making his debut in the 2023-2024 season. He is always relied on in every match by his coach, Xavi Hernandez.
As proof, Yamal has played in 40 matches for the Blaugrana – Barcelona’s nickname – in all competitions this season with six goals and seven assists. A number which is certainly very good for a young man who is not yet 17 years old.
After becoming a core player at the Catalan giant club, the player from Spain also has a dream of wearing the number 10 jersey at Barcelona. Currently, this number is empty after the owner, Ansu Fati, was loaned to Brighton and Hove Albion this season.
“As you say, Ansu is a number 10 but if in the end he doesn’t stay here, that would be a shame. “It is a dream for every child to become Barcelona’s number 10 player,” said Yamal as quoted by Football Espana, Friday (5/4/2024).
“No one in the world would say no, but that is something the club has to manage,” he added.
Thanks to his brilliance, Yamal himself was called up to the Spanish National Team. Lamine Yamal has even made six appearances with a collection of two goals.
Seeing his extraordinary abilities, it is not impossible that the player who plays as a right winger could hold the iconic jersey number 10 in the Blaugrana squad. You could say, since the emergence of Lionel Messi, as one of the club legends with that number, he has become the best La Masia academy graduate who can compete in Barcelona’s main squad.
