Barclays Premier League

Also known as the English Premier league around the world was founded by England in the year 1992. Its sponsor is the Barclay’s bank, thus giving it the title, Barclays Premier League, BPL. This most viewed league has a viewership of 4.7 billion people around the world. The most successful team of this league is Manchester United which also won the BPL of 2013-2014 and is the present champions.

The English football experienced deterioration during the 1980s due to a five year ban on them by UEFA, lack of funds etc. Then, all of that changed in the 1990s when England’s team reached the semi finals of Fifa World cup of 1990, ban was also lifted by UEFA. The club of Manchester United won the UEFA league, in 1991. For the purpose of bring more capital into the game; the BPL was formed after breaking from the FA premier league.

In the 2000s, the clubs of Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea dominated the Premier league. This league has 20 members who are a part of it. The games are held from August till May. It uses the round robin system as its format to hold the competition. Another advantage of playing for the Premier league is that the teams which are at the top four positions on this league will be qualified for the UEFA champion’s league.

The English Premier league has a trophy made by the Royal Jewellers Asprey of London. The trophy has a crown on top of it made of gold. The league also uses a replica of the trophy as well in case of a final when there are more than two clubs playing in the finals for the trophy. Players of the winning teams are awarded with medals separately. Medals are also given to Player of the month, Manager of the season as well as the month award.
