Bayern Munich has reportedly given up on pursuing Declan Rice and shifted their focus to Frenkie de Jong. The West Ham United midfielder, Declan Rice, appears to be more likely to join either Manchester City or Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
While Bayern Munich had shown interest in Declan Rice during this summer transfer window, it seems that the English international now only has two remaining options: Manchester City and Arsenal.
Bayern is still determined to sign a new midfielder to improve the quality of their squad. According to claims from Sky Germany, they have redirected their attention to Frenkie de Jong.
De Jong is currently under contract until June 2026. However, rumours of his departure from Barcelona have circulated in every transfer window.
Last summer, Manchester United was interested in signing De Jong due to coach Erik ten Hag’s influence. Even though Barcelona has now let go of Sergio Busquets, De Jong is still frequently linked with a move away from the club.
According to claims from Goal International, the arrival of Ilkay Gundogan has influenced De Jong’s future. Barcelona is set to bring in Gundogan on a free transfer this summer.
Gundogan is reported to have reached an agreement on a two-year contract. Meanwhile, Barcelona is still facing financial issues. Therefore, De Jong’s departure cannot be completely ruled out.
In addition to De Jong, Bayern Munich is also rumoured to be interested in Kalvin Phillips. The former Leeds United player only started twice in the Premier League last season.
