Beatriz Haddad Maia managed to book a place in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open, Rome 2023 season thanks to a convincing victory.

The 12th seed advanced to the quarter-finals of the Italian Open for the first time in her career with a 6-3 6-3 win over Colombian Camila Osorio in the last 16.

In a historic meeting between the two South Americans, the Brazilian won in 1 hour 21 minutes to reach his fifth quarter-final of the season.

The match between the two players was the first match between two South American women in the round of 16 or better at WTA 1000 level tournaments since the level was introduced in 2009.

In the end, it was the 12th seed who claimed victory over world number 100 Osorio and continued the streak he has built in the last 12 months at the WTA 1000 level. Last season in Toronto, he became the first Brazilian to advance to WTA level 1000 tournament quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

The Brazilian dazzled with her return in the match, as she did not drop serve and only faced one break point which she saved. He won 71 percent of the points on his first serve and even 82 percent of the points on his second serve. He also managed to convert three of the six break point opportunities he created.

Awaiting Haddad Maia in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open is seeded 30, Anhelina Kalinina, who beat 19th seed, Madison Keys 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, so that she has now managed to win all three of their meetings.
