Berlin and Hamburg Bid for 2024 Summer Olympic Games Host Candidacy

Both Berlin and Hamburg are pining as to which city wins in the bidding for the 2024 Olympic Games. With modestly presented concepts, the two cities are eager to host the Games for the summer of the aforementioned year and still waiting for the nod to come from the country’s Olympic sports confederation.

These cities are known worldwide as having high international acclaim and are much too capable of holding the event which involves multi-sport competition and activities. There is no doubt that any of them are able to provide the best venues and could create more impact in international scene.

Berlin’s Edge

Venues that Berlin suggested are those which are near the core of the capital so as not to give the impression of being in an isolated area. Tourists will not only flock to the historical places in the areas but swarm the metropolitan centers as well. Generating income out of tourism and aficionados alike are one of the many reasons why countries compete in hosting the Olympics.

This will showcase the high quality of living in the nation where multi-cultural population exists, as averred by Berlin Olympic officials. The Olympic stadium which had been used in the 1936 Games will once again greet spectators and players of this world famous sporting event.

Hamburg’s concept, on the other hand, is compact and the proposal of making Kleiner Glasbrook to be the site of majority of the games is a highly accepted idea. This area is actually an island situated not far away from the city’s business district but just a 10 minute walk away from it.

Problems in Hamburg

Among the problems that would pose for Hamburg is the construction of the athlete’s village. However, if built, it would alleviate the housing shortage which has affected the city since the port city population has ballooned. Another concern is the stadium which is still in the drafting process and needs to be built, unlike Berlin which already owns one.

The Bidding for the 2024 multi-sporting event starts 2015 and a decision would have to be made final in 2017. Indeed, it is still a long way to go and Hamburg may catch up with Berlin with its predominantly established playing grounds. So far, no other cities have pronounced bids aside from these two famous cities.

Among the cities that are potential hosts are the following:

  • Los Angeles in California, USA
  • Boston in Massachusetts, USA
  • Istanbul, Turkey
  • Doha, Qatar
  • Paris, France
  • Durban, South Africa

The coming 2016 Olympic Games have the exotic Rio de Janeiro in Brazil as its host. Fast forward another 4 years after that, traditional but highly industrialized Tokyo will welcome participants and guests in 2020 for the Summer Games.

It can be remembered that Hitler has had his shining moments when Nazi-ruled Germany hosted the Olympics in 1936. We could just imagine how he played host to the guests and athletes alike and how he kept his evil plans underneath the table.
