The unified light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev’ fight with Adam Deines has been cancelled after the Russian suffered a rib injury in training. However, the promoter has announced that the fight will be rescheduled for a later date which has yet to be confirmed.
Beterbeiv was due to take on the German Deines for the IBF world light heavyweight on October 23, in Moscow, Russia.
Beterbiev origin was first to fight last March against a mandatory contender Meng Fanlong in the Videotron Center in Quebec. However, the fight cancelled due to COVID-19. A few dates were subsequently put forward for the holding of this fight in Russia, but nothing held up.
“I’ve got to say, breaking a rib in September and planning to fight in December seemed optimistic to begin with.” Beterbiev said.
Deines has also been interactive for a long time. He has not entered the ring since his KO victory against Russian Yevgenii Makhteienko, in September 2019.
Marc Ramsay on the other hand, was scheduled to join Beterbiev in Russia in mid-October to complete the Russian’s training camp there. The plans have now changed.
“Artur will be back in Montreal next week. After his 14-day quarantine, we’ll restart training here. But that won’t hurt Artur at all. He’s still in the gym.” Ramsay said.
“I give him time off often and he calls me to ask me to go to the gym, I must then explain to him that it is to me, in reality, to whom I gave leave.” Ramsay added.
