Prominent online casino operator Betsson AB has announced that players in Sweden will soon be able to legally enjoy its Betsson , SverigeAutomaten and NordicBet domains after it became one of the first to receive an iGaming license from authorities in the Scandinavian nation. Momentous milestone: According to an official press release published by European Gaming Media and Events, the operator detailed that the reward for its home nation is to become effective from the first day of 2019 and remain valid for a full five years. It further explained that the authorization is to take its combined tally of licenses up to twelve following the earlier receipt of such approvals from regulators in jurisdictions including Malta, Denmark and the United Kingdom.
One of the first: Betsson is moreover responsible for the domains at OranjeCasino , Betsafe and Casino and it stated that the license from the Swedish Gambling Authority includes a provision that will see it pay an 18% gross gaming revenue tax. The award follows the June passage of legislation that has been designed to deregulate the iGaming market in Sweden with fellow Stockholm-based Online Casino Malaysia operator LeoVegas AB also among those to have been recently licensed.
Second time lucky: Stockholm-listed Betsson AB earlier revealed that it had unsuccessfully applied for a Swedish iGaming license in 2006 while the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, Pontus Lindwall, used an official August press release to proclaim that success this time around would enable his firm to ink local advertising and sponsorship deals and possibly increase the size of its Swedish workforce.
Lindwall’s statement read… “It is good that Sweden has opened up the gaming market to free competition in a controlled environment. We look forward to operating in our Swedish home market as a recognized operator on equal terms.”
