Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is looking for a new striker, after selling Kylian Mbappe in the 2023 summer transfer market. The name Ousmane Dembele is on the radar.
According to Marca, PSG have reached a personal agreement with Ousmane Dembele after being given the green light by Barcelona. In fact, PSG is ready to pay the player’s release clause of 50 million Euros.
If it were August 1, Dembele’s release clause would have risen to 100 million euros. The figure that is believed to be (still) can be redeemed by the club from the City of Paris and Barca also need income.
Now the decision is in Barcelona, do you want to let Ousmane Dembele go or not? It is known, the final decision is in the hands of coach Xavi Hernandez.
For the last two seasons, Xavi has said that the 26-year-old player is one of the important players in his team. In the summer of 2022, because of Xavi, Dembele finally extended his contract.
Barcelona reportedly want to extend Dembele’s contract again, which will expire in the summer of 2024. Barca will offer a contract for another three seasons.
Although his Barcelona career has been plagued by injuries, the France international has impressed under Xavi Hernandez. Last season Dembele scored eight goals and nine assists in 35 matches.
Xavi is said to still want Dembele to stay. However, on the other hand Xavi is also aware that Dembele’s transfer fee will be able to alleviate Barca’s financial crisis.
“I hope not. He is an important player for us, a decisive player. He is a special player and I hope he stays with us because he is a key player,” Sergi Roberto said as reported by AS.
“Hopefully these rumors don’t develop any further,” added Sergio Busquets’ successor in response to Ousmane Dembele’s potential move to PSG.
“We’ll see later, in the transfer market you can never know for sure. I see him happy here,” Xavi said as quoted by Football Espana.
“If there is something, he will let us know. For now, he is here and happy,” he added.
Apart from Dembele, Barcelona still have Ansu Fati, Raphinha, Ez Abde, and also Ferran Torres who can be plotted in a wide area of the pitch.
