Bianca Andreescu canadian will play her first clay-court tournament in the 2021 season exactly one week before the French Open.

The world number 7 has arrived in Strasbourg to participate in Strasbourg International which is the last WTA tournament before heading to the second Grand Slam of the season in Paris next week.

“So far everything is fine, apart from the weather conditions. It rains a lot, the pitch is a bit humid, but I did my best with the situation and I think that’s the best preparation for the French Open,” said Bianca Andreescu.

The main reason the 2019 US Open champion did not play two prestigious clay-court tournaments in Madrid and Rome because of the strange situation he was in. He tested negative for COVID-19 twice before arriving in Madrid, but once he landed in Madrid, he tested positive for COVID-19.

A week later while planning to play in Rome, after going into isolation in Madrid he became aware that if he traveled to Italy he would risk being forced into isolation for a second time.

Regarding his current health, the Canadian national confirmed to the media that he is in good shape and ready to step into action after being out for the past two weeks and recovering, especially since he picked up an injury in the Miami Open final.

“I’m doing well with me, I went through a few days of rest after the Miami Open, I spent a little bit of time with my family, and unfortunately things that happened in Madrid have happened, but I feel like I’m doing the best I can do and I feel like I’m playing in Madrid. Strasbourg is the better choice and I am happy with the decision,” explained Andreescu.

The world number 7 has not played a clay-court tournament in nearly two seasons since playing the 2019 French Open when he picked up an injury and he stressed the importance of having a warm-up tournament before heading to Roland Garros in Paris.

“It will make a big difference. I want to play one clay-court tournament before the French Open, it’s been two seasons since I played on clay,” added Andreescu.

The Canadian national will play as the top seed at Strasbourg International and he will face a qualifier in the first round.
