Flavio Briatore, Fernando Alonso’s manager, has intimated that former Formula 1 champion may come back to the sport if provided a competitive opportunity.
He says Fernando will only consider coming back in favorite trio of F1 i.e. “Ferrari, Mercedes or Red Bull”
At the end of 2018, Fernando announced his retirement from the sport saying goodbye to his team McLaren. But he had insisted that he may return at the right time.
The Spanaiard name start circulating whenever a contractual agreement of a driver is about expiring. An opportunity of replacing a driver pumps the speculation of his return to the sport.
Briatore asserted that Alonso is not interested in anything lesser than a fight for world championship title for Driver. He will only join a team which may provide the similar opportunity.
“Alonso back in F1? I talked to him about it,” the Italian answered to a question asked by Radio Station, Rai Gr Parlamento.
“But he will only do it if he has a seat at Ferrari, Mercedes or Red Bull.
“If not, it doesn’t make sense. He wants to fight for the title.”
He added: “For his part, Alonso has never closed the door to return to F1 although he insists that the series remains the same as when he left, with too much dominance from Mercedes and little equality.
Asked when he thinks the competition among multiple players will arise.
Briatore said, “He hopes that the situation will change by 2021.”
Asked for a possible return to his old team Ferrari, Briatore considers it to be good for the Italian manufacturer. But he added that with Charles Leclerc on board, the team has the capacity to win the world title championship.
“If Fernando Alonso can return to Ferrari? If they want to win, yes but I believe Leclerc can win with Ferrari,” he added.
