The Williams Formula One team confirmed on Friday that former world champion Jenson Button will join as senior advisor with a multi-year contract.
Button joined the team as a driver, being a teammate of German Ralf Schumacher in 2000. And now he returns to Williams 21 years after signing his first contract with the entity.
“Throughout the 2021 season, he will attend several Grands Prix with Williams, as well as taking part in some team events in the UK,” Williams said in a statement.
“Jenson will support Williams’ marketing and media activities as needed throughout the season. He will continue his media duties as an expert analyst at Sky Sports F1 this season, along with his new role on the team,” the team added.
Button winner of fifteen Grands Prix , will provide advice and guidance to the team at Grove and assist drivers in the races and academy in their development. The Briton was delighted to sign for Williams , the team that changed his life when he was 19 years old.
“I am so delighted to once again be able to say that I’ve signed for Williams. Back when I was 19 it was a moment that changed my life and, despite the fact it was over 20 years ago, I already feel like I never really left.” Button said.
“Sir Frank Williams showed faith in me which I will be eternally grateful for and I am incredibly excited to have the chance to come back and help the team as it strives once more for success.
“There’s a lot of hard work to be done but I have no doubt the future is incredibly bright for this fantastic team and I can’t wait to get started.” Button added.
