BWF Player of The Year 2019, Crown of Marcus / Kevin Seized by Kento Momota

Indonesian men’s doubles partner, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon / Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, have to let go the BWF Male Player of the Year title. In the award ceremony, Indonesian men’s doubles pair, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon / Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, had to give up the BWF Male of the Year title which he had won twice in a row (2017 and 2018).

The BWF Player of the Year 2019 award event was held at LN Garden Hotel Grand Ball Room, Guangzhou, China, Monday (9/12/2019) evening local time. The event was held before the BWF World Tour Final (WTF) event, in Guangzhou, China.

For this year, the BWF Male of the Year title fell to the best Japanese men’s singles, Kento Momota. Momota came out as the recipient of the award by setting aside its competitors, namely Marcus / Kevin, Zheng Siwei (China) and Mohammad Ahsan / Hendra Setiawan in the nomine list.

This result was obtained by Momota thanks to its brilliant record by winning eight World Tour 2019 championships, a title from the 2019 Badminton Asia Championships and a victory at the 2019 World Championships. Nevertheless, Indonesia managed to get one BWF Player of the Year 2019 award.

The award was won from the 2019 Female category Badminton Player of the Year on behalf of Leani Ratri Oktila. This is the second award Leani gets in a row.

Throughout this year’s competition, Leani has recorded 12 gold medals, two silver and one bronze. “Praise God, surely proud and grateful. This is my second award for two years in a row. It feels so good. Certainly very satisfied with the results of this year’s training, “Leani said, as quoted from the Badminton Indonesia website. “Hopefully I can maintain this achievement. Hopefully next year my achievements can be even more than this year, ” she continued.

2019 Most Promising Player of the Year: An Se Young (Korean)

Male Badminton Player of the Year 2019: Liu Yu Tong (China)
Female Badminton Player of the Year 2019: Leani Ratri Oktila (Indonesia)
