Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s neat appearance continues to the England national team. The player born in Sheffield, 23 years ago, has indeed begun to show his skill as a poacher in front of goal.
He spent the first half of the 2015–16 season on loan at Northampton Town in League Two, and in August 2016 he joined Everton for a fee of £1.5 million. He later reflected on the move as “simply too good to resist”. Furthermore, On 3 May 2017, he signed a five-year contract, keeping him until 2022.
It is proven that in the first month of the Premier League, he managed to score 4 goals in 4 matches that have been played with the Toffees. This earned him the Player of the Month award in September, which coincided with manager Carlo Anceloti who was named Manager of the Month in the same month.
Sheffield United staff Keith Briggs and Neill Collins reacted positively about Calvert-Lewin, including his attitude. Moreover, Manager Nigel Clough said of him: “He’s a big lad who is good technically for the stage he’s at and he’s going to win headers against anybody”. Carlo Ancelotti suggested Calvert-Lewin has all the qualities to be a top striker: “He is fantastic with the head, clever in the box and sharp. I think he is going to be at the top in England and in Europe.”
Dominic’s brilliant performance under Don Carlo’s care with Everton made England coach Gareth Southgate interested in calling him on the national team. He was included in 23 players called by Southgate along with two of his colleagues from Everton, namely Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane. They had received the calls up first.
For sure, the opportunity that came was not wasted by Dominic. He is believed to have started the match against Wales which took place at Wembley stadium. He proved it by scoring one goal in the three lions victory. He scored a heading thanks to an assist from Jack Greilash. Other goals were scored by Wolves defender Connor Coady and a rising striker along with Southampton, Danny Ings. England also won 3-0 over Wales.
In the next match, The Three Lions will face Belgium. Big match party will take place at Wembly Stadium. It is worth looking forward to will Dominic regain his trust and help England to win the match against Belgium.
