Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has insisted that he would have talks with the club after the end of his current international duty with the Republic of Ireland.
This season, Kelleher has founded himself as Jurgen Klopp’s backup goalkeeper to Alisson Becker. Kelleher made eight appearances in all competitions and was important in the Reds’ Carabao Cup triumph.
“I don’t know what’s going on yet. I’m still finishing this season and then we’ll have conversations to see what happens.” Kelleher said.
“Of course I have to play those few games and see what happens with them and maybe decide after that.” Kelleher added.
Klopp already claimed the Irishman was the best No. 2 in the world when he celebrated Chelsea’s League Cup defeat in February.
“To be 100% honest, for me Caoimhin Kelleher is too the best number 2 in the world especially for the way we play.” Klopp said.
“Kelleher is clearly a very talented goalscorer, playing 90 minutes inIreland’s 1-0 defeat to Armenia on Saturday.
“The best compliment we can give the Academy graduate is that when he’s in the starting XI, we don’t seem much different.” Klopp added.
Kelleher has enough experience now and will be confident to demand more minutes, but while Alisson continues to perform as well as he has since signing from Roma in 2018, it will remain difficult to get playing time
The 23-year-old goalkeeper learns from one of the top goalkeepers in the world while training every day at the AXA academy, but how long will he be content with a bench spot?
Kelleher has a contract until 2026 and people believed the club would have to pay a much fee to let him go.
Next season, all he has to do is keep learning and seize every opportunity that comes his way because he definitely has some free time.
