Carlos Alcaraz responds to the men’s singles Wimbledon final calling the final fight by Novak Djokovic with a stunning performance

The Spaniard bounced back after a shaky start and put in a high-quality performance in a 1-6, 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory over defending champion Djokovic in the Wimbledon final. He is now the fifth male player in the Open Era to win more than one Grand Slam title before turning 21.

“This is a dream come true for me,” said Alcaraz, who prevented the Serb from returning to world No. 1.

“As I said before, of course it would be great to win, but even if I lose, I will be really proud of myself and what an amazing journey this has been. Making history in this beautiful tournament, playing a final against one of the legends of this sport.”

“It’s a dream come true to play in this round. It was truly amazing for a boy, 20 years old, to reach this kind of situation so quickly. I feel really proud of myself and the team I have. The hard work we put in every day led us to lift this trophy.”

The tennis player who won his first Grand Slam title at the US Open in the 2022 season, broke Djokovic’s 34-match winning streak at Wimbledon after fighting for 4 hours and 42 minutes. The 20-year-old tennis player also fell on the court which became an emotional moment after he converted a match point opportunity. The victory made him the fourth active male tennis player to win the Wimbledon title after Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.

The task of defeating international Djokovic at Wimbledon only got more difficult after he was beaten in the first set. But the top seed demonstrated his comfort on the big stage by fighting back to claim victory.

“After the first set I thought, ‘Carlos, step up the game, everyone is going to be disappointed,'” Alcaraz said. “I have to congratulate Novak, it was amazing to play against him. What can I say about him? It’s unbelievable,” Carlos Alcaraz added.

“You inspire a lot, I watched you since I was born. You have won the tournament. You’re probably in better shape than I am. 36 is the new 26, you made it happen. It’s amazing.”

A number of big names witnessed the match, including Andy Murray, Daniel Craig, Brad Pitt, Prince and Princess of Wales who sat side by side with the King of Spain, King Felipe VI. They could have watched Djokovic match Margaret Court’s milestone by winning a 24th Grand Slam title, but instead, the first seed cemented her status as one of the brightest young talents with a bright future ahead.

“It felt really special to play in front of royalty. Prince of Wales, King Felipe. I feel really proud that you are here to support me. I played in front of you twice and I won both times. And I wish you would come more often,” joked Alcaraz.
