The future plan of Carmelo Anthony in Houston Rockets was finally answered on Thursday (15/11/2018). Reported by Champion.net from ESPN, Carmelo Anthony and Houston Rockets agreed to part ways after undergoing 10 regular NBA 2018-2019 season matches.
“After going through a number of internal discussions, Rockets will part ways with Carmelo Anthony and we are working on the best solution for the team,” Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey said in an official statement.
“Carmelo has shown good faith while in Rockets and accepted all roles given by coach Mike D’Antoni,” Morey said.
“The compatibility we imagined when Carmelo came to the Rockets has not yet materialized. Based on that, we think it is best to continue (without Carmelo) because the other decisions will be unfair for him,” Morey said.
Anthony arrived at Rockets with a free transfer alias free agent in the summer of 2018 with the aim of contending for a title. Based on this, this basketball player who is familiarly called Melo, cannot carry out a work agreement until December 15.
Carmelo Anthony left Rockets on Friday last week after the team decided to minimize the role of the 34-year-old basketball player. Mike D’Antoni as the Rockets head coach then appointed rookie Gary Clark to continue Anthony’s role.
“In the summer, we tried to give Anthony a role, but that didn’t work,” said D’Antoni.
“He tried everything he could. He appeared extraordinary as long as he was here. However, for a reason, this cooperation was unsuccessful. I can only thank him for his professionalism,” he said again.
Carmelo Anthony has only played for 10 matches with Houston Rockets this season. Ironically, eight of the 10 matches were played by Anthony as a backup player, aka bench. In fact, before uniforming Rockets, Anthony always became the main player as starter. Melo can’t shine in Rockets. Status of a reserve player, the acquisition of Melo points is not as good as the last few seasons.
Melo’s poor performance resulted in the performance of Rockets dropping earlier this season. Rockets have lost seven of their 11 matches.
The Rockets won a league-leading 65 games last season behind a record-setting offense, but they have sputtered in the early going of this campaign. They are 12th in the Western Conference at 6-7.
The 34-year-old is one of 11 players in NBA history with career averages of at least 24.0 points, 6.0 rebound, and 3.0 assists and a three-time Olympic gold medalist.
