Casino industry is always on the path to try and experiment something new to attract new customers. It is important for them as they just cannot depend on whatever they are doing and thus continue to explore more avenues as well as innovate their products. These days more and more casino operators are obsesses with millennial because of their purchasing power and large demographics.
Casino operators are in a mad rush as they have been bitten by so called “millennial mania” and are looking for various ways to innovate their products and services to capture this free spirited generation. These casino operators believe that these youngsters have a way of life and have spending power and thus they do almost everything to catch their attention. However Robert Coppola warned these casino operators that too much attention to millennial may alienate other groups, particularly their current customers who may feel deprived. As per the industry needs there is a need for casino operators to change their mindset to appeal younger generation but at the same time they should also not forget their older customers.
Copolla said “There’s some sort of have been a short term focus with this topic in particular, focus on demographics and not psychographics. We are all millennial’s I like to say. My grandma is on Facebook.”
He further told CalvinAyre that “If you look at Facebook’s fastest growing user segment, it is 60 to 70 years old. Increasingly, everyone is adapting a new way of thinking about leisure entertainment.”
“No one wants to alienate their current customer base so that 55-year-old slot players will be going to be important for a quite a number of years to come,” Coppola said. “So we certainly don’t want to turn your casino into a “millennial casino” but you do want to start thinking of micro environment zones, creating exclusive areas for different types of customers to interact in a different way.”
When he was asked about the change yet to come in the industry despite these casino operators clouded with this fascination for the younger lot, Coppola mentioned couple of reasons including lack of prioritization which is an emerging trend.
“Regulatory certainly plays a role as well, their manufacturer hindered by what they can do certainly, that’s why we are seeing non-gaming really outpacing gaming in terms of innovation. It is an easier solution.”
