Champions League 2023-2024: Robert Lewandowski Cs Falls 0-1!

The results of Shakhtar Donetsk vs Barcelona in the 2023-2024 Champions League will be reviewed in this article. Blaugrana – Barcelona’s nickname – had to suffer a 0-1 defeat on the fourth matchday of Group H.

The Shakhtar Donetsk vs Barcelona match was held at the Volkspark Stadium, Hamburg, on Tuesday (7/11/2023). The only goal scored in this match was scored by Danylo Sikan in the 40th minute.

Shakhtar Donetsk immediately launched an intense attack on Barcelona’s goal at the start of the match. A series of opportunities to open up the advantage first were obtained.

One of them was in the 14th minute through Sikan’s action. Unfortunately, the ball from his hard kick was still blocked by Ter Stegen with his knee.

Barcelona itself did not remain silent and continued to be attacked. Robert Lewandowski cs continues to try to build attacks. However, Shahktar Donetsk’s tight defense meant they were never able to score a goal.

Instead of opening the lead first, Barcelona conceded. It was Sikan who put his name on the scoreboard in the 40th minute after his header landed straight into Barcelona’s goal. The 1-0 score was maintained until the end of the first half.

In the second half, Barcelona, who were determined to get back up, made a number of substitutions. Xavi included Joao Felix and Alejandro Balde.

Barcelona immediately attacked more intensely. One of the golden opportunities was obtained in the 61st minute. Unfortunately, Riznyk was able to work well again in securing his goal.

The home team also had to suffer a bitter pill at the start of the second half. Their star, Sikan, had to be pulled off the field due to an injury after a collision with Christiansen.

Even so, Shakhtar Donetsk can still appear impressive. In fact, they managed to break through Barcelona’s goal again in the 86th minute through Newerton’s action. Unfortunately, the referee disallowed the goal for offside.

In the remaining time of the match, Barcelona continued to try to equalize. However, their efforts still failed to end well. Barcelona also fell at Shakhtar Donetsk headquarters with a score of 0-1.

After the match, an angry Xavi emphasized that his team had lost humiliatingly. The Spanish coach said the Blaugrana could not show the level of intensity like a team fighting in the Champions League.

“The Champions League demands the highest level and today we haven’t shown it, we went away angry,” said Xavi as quoted by Goal International.

“Intensity? No, today I will blame the game, we did not interpret it correctly. We have to recover and grow. “Nothing goes according to plan,” he added.

Furthermore, Xavi did not even hesitate to say that this defeat was a setback for Barcelona. According to him, the defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk was one of the worst matches for the Blaugrana.

“This is definitely a step backwards. We have played one of the worst games in these two years. And at the most inopportune time,” he added.

This defeat means that Barcelona now has the same number as its closest competitor in Group H, FC Porto with nine points. With two matches remaining, Barcelona, FC Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk still have a chance to advance to the round of 16.
