Champions League Results: Inter Milan Draw, Ajax Win

Inter Milan and Ajax Amsterdam achieved different results on the second matchday of the Champions League group stage, Tuesday (28/9).

Inter played in a goalless draw against Shakhtar Donetsk at the NSK Olimpiyskiy Stadium, Kiev. In this match, Inter faced fierce resistance from Donetsk.

Inter got two chances early in the first half. However, the efforts of Edin Dzeko and Nicolo Barella have not produced goals.

Donetsk responded to La Beneamata’s pressure midway through the first half. The hosts got a chance through Pedrinho’s long-range shot which was still over the Inter crossbar.

In the second half, Inter again created opportunities to score. Barella and Lautaro Martinez got chances which again did not change the score of the match.

Inter got the best chance to score a goal towards the end of the second half. Joaquin Correa’s hard shot from outside the penalty box could still be countered by the Donetsk goalkeeper, making the score 0-0 until the second half ended.

This draw means that Inter have not managed to win in the first two Group D matches. Inter temporarily occupies the third position of the Group standings by collecting one point.

In another match, Ajax won 2-0 over Besiktas in the Group C match at the Johan Cruijff Arena. Erik ten Hag’s side took the win thanks to goals from Steven Berghuis in the 17th minute and Sebastian Haller (43′).

Playing at home, Ajax dominated the game far more than Besiktas. Erik ten Hag’s team recorded 71 percent of ball possession, while Besiktas only got 29 percent of ball possession. Throughout the match, Ajax had 22 chances, with seven shots that were on target for the opposing team. Meanwhile, Besiktas were only able to register four shots, but none of them were on target.

Ajax opened the scoring in this match through Berghuis’ goal. Berghuis’ left foot shot from inside the penalty box nestled into the right corner of the Besiktas goal.

Ajax then increased the advantage through a goal scored by Haller. Haller’s right-footed shot from close range made it 2-0 for Ajax’s advantage which lasted until the game was over.

This victory made Ajax achieve perfect results from the first two games by collecting six points. Ajax are three points ahead of Borussia Dortmund who have collected three points from one game.

Meanwhile, Besiktas are stuck in third place after failing to gain a single point from the two matches they have gone through.
