Inter Milan vs FC Porto results in the last 16 first leg of the 2022-2023 Champions League will be discussed here. The match which was held at the Stadio San Siro, Wednesday (22/2/2023) ended with a score of 1-0 for the victory of the Nerazzurri – nicknamed Inter Milan.
Inter Milan needed to wait until the 86th minute to score through Romelu Lukaku. Meanwhile, Dragoes — FC Porto’s nickname — ended the match with 10 people after Otavio was sent off in the 78th minute.
In the ninth minute, there was a foul on Nicolo Barella in the forbidden box and Inter Milan asked the referee for a penalty. However, the referee did not think it deserved a penalty.
Lautaro Martinez got a golden opportunity in the 13th minute. Federico Dimarco moved down the left wing and sent the ball to Lautaro who was standing unguarded. However, the Argentine striker fired a shot far from the target.
In the 18th minute, Hakan Calhanoglu’s free kick found Lautaro Martinez. But the ball was successfully muffled by the FC Porto defender.
Matteo Darmian created a golden opportunity by sending a pass into the penalty box. However, Edin Dzeko was unable to reach it while Lautaro failed to volley him.
In the 37th minute, Porto created a golden opportunity with Mehdi Taremi providing a back pass when in the penalty box. However, Marko Grujic’s shot was successfully cleared by goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Towards the halftime break, Dimarco’s pass again posed a threat to FC Porto. Alessandro Bastoni managed to meet it with a header, but goalkeeper Diogo Costa saved it with fine reflexes.
Seven minutes after the break, Nicolo Barella received a pass from the right flank and fired a volley. Unfortunately, the ball he shot was slightly wide of FC Porto’s goal.
In the 55th minute, Mehdi Taremi received the ball from Pepe and fired a shot at goal. But unfortunately, Onana swiftly dispelled him.
Inter Milan created opportunities through the fine collaboration between Calhanoglu and Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker sent the ball close to goal, but Lautaro failed to reach it.
Since the 78th minute, FC Porto had to continue the game with 10 men after Otavio was sent off. He fouled Hakan Calhanoglu and the referee gave him a second yellow card.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 86th minute. Barella sent a pass into the penalty box which was met by Romelu Lukaku’s header. The ball hit the goal post, but Lukaku managed to maximize the rebound to score the opener.
That proved to be the only goal scored in this game. However, this is enough to provide capital for Inter Milan who will travel to FC Porto in the second leg, next March.
