Charlie Swan to be retired from training

Charlie Swan will also be remembered in the world of horse racing. He will always be remembered as the best partner of Istabraq. There is news for the fans of jockey Charlie Swan that he will be retired from the training sessions at the end of this month. Back in year 2003, Charlie Swan stopped his riding sessions. Charlie Swan aged 46 up till now has won three different titles. One title was of Cheltenham Champion on Istabraq, the second was for Aidan O’ Brien as trainer and the third one was for JP McManus as owner. Taking retirement from training sessions, Charlie Swan is much disappointed and is sad. Expressing his grief over the decision of taking retirement, jockey Charlie Swan said that, “It has become more and more difficult to make the training operation profitable. It was a very hard decision to make in one sense, because of the staff and the owners. However, the reality is the training business is no longer viable for me for two main reasons, the increased cost of labor, feed and all the overheads, and a reduction in numbers in the yard. Also we have been selling some of the more promising youngsters and that has left us without horses to keep the profile of the stable high.”

Throughout his career in training, Charlie Swan has won a lot of achievement. Some of his achievements include Scottish Campion Hurdle with Emmpat, Eider Chase at Newcastle, the Cork Grand National and the Thyestes Chase at Gowran. With such a bright career Charlie Swan is still quitting his career from training. According to him, the business of training is really not valuable these days as now there is an increase in the cost of feed, overheads and in labor too.  Talking with Press Association Sport, he said, “It’s just got a bit difficult, we don’t have as many horses here now and it’s time to get out really. With the costs of labor and everything else, the rising costs and fewer horses, it’s not as easy as it was.”

On thanking the staff and owners jockey Charlie Swan said, “I’d like to thank all my staff and owners. Life goes on and I will look to the future, I will probably do a bit of trading in horses and the bloodstock side of things and see what happens.”

The struggles and efforts of Charlie Swan will always be remembered in the world of horse riding.
