Chelsea are held to a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge Stadium in a follow-up to the Premier League 2018/2019 competition on Saturday (20/19).
Chelsea as host attacked Manchester United early in the first half. Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic had a chance to score in the third minute, but his shot was blocked by Man United’s defense.
In the 16th minute, Man United striker Romelu Lukaku had the chance to heading, but the ball was not on target. Chelsea were finally able to take the lead in the 21st minute with defender Antonio Ruediger’s header using corner from Willian. In that goal, Paul Pogba made a mistake in keeping Ruediger. Pogba, who initially guarded Ruediger when a corner kick occurred, was fooled by the movement of the German defender.
Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof remains focused on escorting David Luiz. When the corner was released, Ruediger was without guard and was free to head the ball to the right corner of David de Gea’s goal.
Man United could only equalize in the 54th minute through Anthony Martial’s shot which took advantage of the chaos in front of the Chelsea goal.
The goal of the Red Devils was created thanks to Juan Mata’s left-footed shot which was pushed over by Kepa Arrizzabalaga. The ball that was wiped out by the Chelsea defender fell to Ashley Young’s feet and was immediately greeted by a hard kick.
Unfortunately, Young’s ball hit Jorginho a little and fell at the foot of Martial. Without difficulty the Frenchman broke into the goal with his right foot.
David Luiz almost gave the hosts the lead in the 65th minute. But Luiz’s header made use of Willian’s free kick just sideways on the right side of De Gea’s goal.
In 71st minute N’Golo Kante fired a right-footed shot from outside the penalty box which De Gea could still brush off well.
Man United could turn the ball into a 2-1 lead in the 71st minute with Martial’s curling shot. Starting from the acceleration of Mata on the right side, the former Chelsea player then gave the ball to Marcus Rashford which was then forwarded to Martial. Martial calmly curled a shot into the left corner of the goal.
Man United’s victory which was in sight was gone after Ross Barkley scored the equalizer in the 90th + 6th minute.
There was a commotion at the end of the hall to the dressing room after Barkley scored. In the rerun, Man United manager move from his seats to approach someone at the end of the hall. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
