Chelsea Fails to Win Against Burnley, Thomas Tuchel Saysthe Opponent Was Lucky

Chelsea failed to win when they hosted Burnley in the 11th week of the 2021-2022 Premier League at Stamford Bridge, Saturday (6/11/2021). After the match, Thomas Tuchel said his opponent was lucky to get a draw.

The Blues—Chelsea’s nickname—played dominantly in front of their own public. The result, Kai Havertz was able to score a goal in the 33rd minute maximizing Callum Hudson Odoi’s bait.

However, Chelsea had to swallow a bitter pill when they had to give up two points after being equalized by Matej Vydra in the 79th minute. The player who had just entered to replace Joham Gudmundsson in the 70th minute made goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy helpless through his deadly flick.

In response to this, Tuchel was annoyed and said that his opponent was saved by the goddess of fortune. However, he still makes sense of it and says that it is something that usually happens in football.

“Burnley were lucky to draw but that’s football. I stick to my feelings from the touchline and I have evidence from all the data that we had a fantastic game,” Tuchel said.

“I like the intensity, I like the concentration. This is what you need after seven wins in a row.”

Furthermore, Tuchel admitted that he was annoyed with Burnley’s playing style, which only played long passes into the penalty box but could actually steal goals. The German coach considered that his opponent was lucky to get a goal from the sky.

“We played after not away in the Champions League and we played against a team like Burnley who always put long passes into your box. You have to keep them out of the box and at that level you get the first and second balls.”

However, Tuchel makes sense of it. The former coach of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Borussia Dortmund said that his team had also experienced luck, namely when they won 1-0 against Brentford in the eighth week of the Premier League, Saturday 16 October 2021.

“As I said, we were lucky not to concede a goal at home to Brentford. Burnley were lucky today to get a result, but it happens sometimes,” he said.
