Chelsea will host Malmo FC in the third match of Group H of the 2021-2022 Champions League at Stamford Bridge Stadium, Thursday (10/21/2021). Ahead of the match, Thomas Tuchel revealed the mental state of one of his players, Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku was initially brought in from Inter Milan showing impressive results in several matches. However, his performance has decreased and has never scored a goal again.
However, Tuchel has a different view on Lukaku’s current form. He explained that both Lukaku and Chelsea were adapting. But with the Belgian often playing for his club or country, Lukaku has become exhausted.
“We are in the process of adapting to each other and in my opinion, Lukaku has played too many games with Chelsea or Belgium,” Tuchel said.
Tuchel said Lukaku is a great player and always wants to win every game he plays. But if Lukaku fails to do so, it makes him think about the mental pressure that is on Lukaku and affects his game.
“Lukaku is a fantastic player and a competitive guy so he wants to win every game. Because it’s a big game for him personally it means a lot to him to play for his country, so he takes it really seriously.”
“But if Lukaku doesn’t manage to bring good results when he plays, he always carries it on his shoulders, thinks about it and ponders and I feel Lukaku is mentally tired with the pressure that is currently there.”
Chelsea are now in second place in Group H of the Champions League by collecting three points. They are behind Juventus who are at the top with a difference of three points.
