Real Betis on Tuesday confirmed that the club’s starting goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo, will extend his contract until 2023.
For several months, the renewal of Bravo was a matter of priority at a Betis that began to tremble just thinking about a possible escape from the goalkeeper.
He will become the oldest Betis goalkeeper since legend Jose Ramon Esnaola left the club in June 1985 at the age of 39.
“Real Betis and Claudio Bravo have reached an agreement for the contract extension of the player. This way, the Chilean goalkeeper will be a Green and White until 2023.” Betis said in a statement.
Claudio arrived to Real Betis in summer of 2020. Since then, he has become an important member of the squad. In total the Chilean keeper has played 39 official games as a Green and White.
This season, the former Real Sociedad, Barcelona and Manchester City goalkeeper has played 18 games across all competitions with Betis.
“I’m very happy. The fact of staying here fills me with pride, fills me with joy,” Bravo said.
“It’s a very important step in my career but I take it calmly, and in no way does it distract me from my main goal at this point.” he added.
Bravo left Manchester City after four years with the Club. The Chilean goalkeeper made 61 appearances for City after joining from Barcelona in 2016 and kept 20 clean sheets.
Betis continues to take steps forward with the renewal of some of its most important players. This has been precisely the case that has had as protagonists Nabil Fekir, Andres Guardado and Bravo, to name a few.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side are fifth in the La Liga table and on the 23rd they will play in the Copa del Rey final against Valencia.
