Germany had to admit Colombia’s advantage with a score of 2-0 in a friendly match on Wednesday.
Luis Diaz’s header in the 54th minute and Juan Cuadrado’s penalty in the 82nd minute gave the visitors their first victory over the German side.
Germany, who have had less than a year to build a tough squad for the continental tournament, needed two late goals to draw 3-3 with Ukraine last week before losing 1-0 to Poland on Friday.
The four-time world champions have won just one of their last five matches since their shock group stage exit at the World Cup in December last year.
They have also won only three of their last 11 matches.
“Obviously I’m very disappointed because we couldn’t implement what we had planned,” Germany coach Hansi Flick was quoted as saying by ESPN.
“There were things we wanted to try but backfired.”
Hansi Flick, who took over in 2021 and has been under increased pressure since his early World Cup exit, said his players lacked confidence.
“What can I say? The argument is not on our side at the moment. We have to analyze it, draw our lessons,” he said after three games without a win.
“This is a cycle that we have to go through. In September we have to show a different performance. We will see different teams and the results will start to show,” he continued.
“We believe we have a good team and good players.”
Colombia looked much hungrier in attack, forcing Germany keeper Marc Andre ter Stegen into a string of fine first-half saves, while 21-year-old Malick Thiaw impressed in defence.
The hosts had over 65% possession but did not manage a single shot on goal in the first half, often struggling to play the ball from their own half.
Colombia took the lead after Germany’s Emre Can lost possession and Cuadrado crossed for Diaz to head past Ter Stegen.
Germany had increased the tempo but were still vulnerable at the back.
The introduction of centre-forward Niclas Fuellkrug did little to improve matters up front and Joshua Kimmich’s handball gave the visitors the opportunity to double their advantage with Cuadrado advancing as the executioner did not waste the chance.
