Complexity Gaming and U.S. Army Launches Cooperation for Esports Program

Complexity Gaming is increasingly active in developing their esports organization in 2019. After a massive rebranding — including changing the official spelling of the team’s name to no longer using the big L — and building headquarters with sophisticated facilities, they are now cooperating with the US armed forces aka U.S. Army. This was announced by Complexity Gaming via a press release on their official website on Thursday, June 13, 2019.

U.S. Army has a program called Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS). The program aims to maintain the well-being and moral quality of single or geographically separated soldiers from their families, so that they have more resilience and readiness to join in the battle. BOSS has three main components, namely recreation, community service, and quality of life.

Through cooperation with Complexity Gaming, U.S. Army will integrate esports into the BOSS program. The way is by creating unique facilities or activities at the Complexity headquarters and in U.S Army installations, so that soldiers can go deeper into the world of competitive gaming, and esports athletes can dive into the world of soldier. This cultural exchange is not only about professional activities, but also touches on aspects of the daily lives of both parties.

“Working with U.S. Army and BOSS programs are a proud moment for the Complexity organization,” said Daniel Herz, Chief Revenue Officer of Complexity Gaming. “We are very honored to be able to co-design a joint experience program that supports members of the United States armed forces through esports.”

On June 13-16, Complexity athletes will stay at the U.S Army headquarters at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, and undergo training like soldiers. For three days, the athletes will learn a variety of soldiering sciences, such as learning about discipline and perseverance. The soldiers also had the opportunity to compete with Complexity athletes in several popular games, coupled with several other activities such as meet and greet and giveaway.

On the contrary, from June 28 to 30 several selected soldiers will join Complexity athletes at their headquarters, the GameStop Performance Center (GSPC). These soldiers will get gaming training from Complexity staff, including cognitive training in the Mind Gym facility and the use of decompression porch. At the end of the boot camp, the soldiers will compete in esports tournaments that are broadcast live on the Twitch Army Entertainment channel. Communities can also get to know the soldiers more closely through various content on the Complexity social media channels.

“This program is a great opportunity for the BOSS. The soldiers will experience what is needed to become a professional esports athlete, which I believe is in harmony with the pillars of the BOSS program. “This opportunity promotes healthy competition and can be a bridge for other events or programs in the future,” said Staff Sergeant Adrian Mooney, BOSS representative from U.S. Army.

Cooperation between Complexity and U.S. Army will not end in just one program. They will continue to build relationships to find and carry out unique activities around esports that can be applied as a means of recreation for soldiers, to help reduce stress or depression and increase their confidence.
