Conor McGregor finally returns to the Octagon to face Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. According to reports, the two fighters will fight at UFC 246 on January 18 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Nothing that really shocked people about any of that but the only thing that kind of surprises until people thought about it for a second is that the fights going to be at welterweight, which is where Cerrone just came down from to fight Tony Ferguson.
McGregor hasn’t fought since UFC 229 in October, 2018 where he lost to the UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov via fourth round submission. The 31-year-old man is a big fighter and people understand that he wants a rematch with “The Eagle”.
When McGregor was still the UFC featherweight champion in 2015, he had a bite with Cerrone at a press conference. The fighters discussed whether McGregor was able to reach the welterweight: “The Notorious” was sure that he would beat the top fighters there, and Cerrone claimed that there was nothing for his opponent to do.
Since then, McGregor and Cerrone have been talking more well-behaved about each other. McGreor promised to give the American a fight for his cool performances, and Cerrone is always happy to fit into the fray, especially with such an opponent.
Both cool fight in a rack, both know how to work in a combination style. But, probably, McGregor has more physical power, but it is completely not clear what the experiment with the transition to the welterweight can turn into. At the same time, he is still a favourite, unless, of course, it did not completely rust.
Cerrone has fought 5 times winning 3 out of 5 but his last 2 bouts we’re TKO losses coming by way of punches. The American icon is recovering from back-to-back defeats against Ferguson and Justin Gaethje in a year that has also seen him defeat Al Iaquinta and Alexander Hernandez.
