Continues to stumble, Manchester United Will Lose the Main Sponsor

Continuing to suffer, Manchester United will lose their main sponsor, Chevrolet.

Chevrolet is the main sponsor of the Red Devils since 2014. The brand of the four-wheeled vehicle company from the United States is emblazoned on the front of the Manchester United jersey for a period of seven years according to the contract.

The car manufacturing company reached an agreement with Manchester United in 2012 to become the main sponsor. In the agreement, Chevrolet will pour 410 million pounds in funds for a period of seven years. The sponsorship collaboration then began in 2014.

Ironically, as long as the club has been sponsored by Chevrolet since 2014, Manchester United failed to win any Premier League and Champions League titles.

Later the Daily Mail launch, Chevrolet will not renew the contract with the Red Devils which will expire next season.

The company, which is under the General Motors (GM) group, believes that Manchester United’s failure to win titles at prestigious events such as the English League and Champions League is a major consideration not to continue the sponsorship contract.

In addition, Chevrolet felt disappointed with the funds that were too large to be disbursed as the main sponsor. They assess the difference in numbers is very far compared to companies that have been sponsors at Manchester United.

Still reported by the Daily Mail, AON only paid 19.6 million pounds in the 2010-2014 range. AIG only paid £ 14.1 million (2006-2010), while Vodafone only paid £ 8 million (2000-2006). While Chevrolet must spend 68 million pounds per season.

GM officials are said to have been frustrated by Manchester United’s plummeting achievements so they decided not to extend the sponsorship contract period.

“It was a mess from the beginning. There was an impression that Chevrolet was paying too much and it would not be done again,” said a Daily Mail source.

It was also reported that Chevrolet’s Global Marketing Head, Joel Ewanick, who passed the sponsorship cooperation with Manchester United was immediately fired after the agreement was announced. Ewanick was considered careless in collaborating with the Red Devils sponsor without looking at comparisons with other companies that had sponsored the Red Devils.

Manchester United is currently in depressed because of poor performance. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s new squad packed 4 wins from 11 inaugural matches in all competitions in the 2019/2020 season.

Especially in the English League, Paul Pogba et al only won 2 wins, with the rest swallowing defeat and drawing each three times. While Manchester United stuck in 12th place in the English League standings with just collected 9 points, 15 points adrift of Liverpool in the first position.

That situation, despite the season is still long, leaving concerns in the breakthrough Manchester United into European competition next season. Yes, the Red Devils are feared not to qualify for the Champions League again.

Last season, Manchester United only finished 6th in the English League so they only appeared in the Europa League in the 2019/2020 season. Now, poor performance makes Manchester United threatened to fail to qualify for the Champions League for two consecutive seasons.
