Copa America 2024 Results: Uruguay Wins 5-0 Against Bolivia and Qualifies for Top 8

The Uruguayan national team met the Bolivian national team on the second matchday of Group C of the 2024 Copa America, Friday 28 June 2024. In the duel at the MetLife Stadium, Uruguay won by five goals without reply over Bolivia.

Signs of Uruguay’s victory were visible from the early minutes. Marcelo Bielsa’s team played aggressively. In the 2nd minute, Darwin Nunez had a chance to score but his header went wide.

Nunez paid for that mistake in the 21st minute. Receiving Max Araujo’s through ball, Nunez coolly executed the opportunity. This goal gave Uruguay a 2-0 lead over Bolivia.

Previously, precisely in the 8th minute, Uruguay had scored a goal. Armed with Ronald Araujo’s header, Facundo Pellistri scored the first goal in this match. The first half ended with the score 2-0 for Uruguay.

Uruguay’s good performance continued in the second half. Having difficulty at the start, Uruguay started to get hot in the 70th minute. Max Araujo scored a goal after receiving a pass from Nicolas de la Cruz, the score was 3-0.

Pellistri performed well in the duel against Bolivia. Apart from the goal in the first half, the Manchester United winger provided an assist for Uruguay’s fourth goal scored by Fede Valverde in the 81st minute.

The match looks like it will end with a score of 4-0. Bielsa attracted key players such as Pellistri, Nunez, Mathias Vina and Valverde. However, the Uruguayan players still appeared aggressive.

in the 89th minute, a collaboration between substitute players scored a goal. Bentancur was able to finish off de Arrascaeta’s free kick for a goal. Uruguay won with a score of 5-0.

Uruguay leads Group C with six points. They are also certain to qualify for the Top 8 even though they still have one match. Bolivia is at the bottom of the standings after losing two consecutive matches.

In Bielsa’s hands, Uruguay is on the right path. At least until the first two matches of the 2024 Copa America group phase. Uruguay played aggressively, typical of the teams coached by Bielsa.

The Uruguay national team is in Group C at the 2024 Copa America. Uruguay competes with Panama, Bolivia and hosts the United States. Quite a difficult group for every competing team.

On the first matchday, Uruguay won 3-1 over Panama. In this match, Uruguay took 20 shots throughout the match. Seven of them were right on target.

Uruguay won again in the second match. This time, Darwin Nunez and colleagues won with a score of 5-0 over Bolivia. The total shots taken by Uruguayan players reached 19.

Two matches, eight goals scored by Uruguay. So far, Uruguay is the sharpest team in the Copa America. Uruguay is even sharper than defending champion Argentina. Lionel Messi and colleagues scored three goals in two matches.

The Uruguay national team was under the control of coach Oscar Tabarez for a long time. When he retired, Uruguay’s condition was shaky. The situation is getting more complicated because player regeneration is not going well.

Over the years, Uruguay has continued to rely on Luis Suarez, Diego Godin, Fernando Muslera, Edinson Cavani, and Martin Caceres.

So, the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa means that Uruguay’s regeneration is going well. Darwin Nunez plays an important role. Ronald Araujo, Manuel Ugarte and Fede Valverde played important roles. Likewise with Max Araujo and Facundo Pellistri.

Marcelo Bielsa was appointed as Uruguay coach in May 2023. Since then, the 68 year old man has played 12 matches with Uruguay. The following are Uruguay’s statistical records with Marcelo Bielsa:

Games played: 12
Wins: 9
Draw: 1
Losses: 2
Scored: 32
Conceded: 9
Players used: 39
Most played player: Facundo Pellistri
