Former Manchester United coach, Sir Alex Ferguson, played a part in Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford. Ferguson also revealed how to convince Ronado not to choose the Red Devils’ city rivals, Man United’s nickname, namely Manchester City.
Previously, Man City was rumored to be a club interested in getting Ronaldo’s signature from Juventus. But the 36-year-old decided to return to defending Man United at the last second
Hearing Ronaldo was interested in defending Man City, Ferguson could not stay silent. Ferguson also admitted that he had a big contribution to return the Portuguese player to Old Trafford.
“A lot of people played their part, and I contributed knowing that, really, Cristiano wanted to come here. That’s important. It worked really well,” said Ferguson, quoted from TalkSport, Monday (13/9/2021).
Ferguson also admitted that he was very relieved after hearing the certainty that Ronaldo would return to Man United. He asserted that he could not bear to see Ronaldo have to defend his rival club, Manchester City.
“It’s certainly (a moment) full of joy and also (feel) relief. It’s a relief because I can’t imagine him playing for Manchester City, I don’t think anyone can.”
“That’s why we had to make steps to make sure he came here. The club then followed very well, spoke to the Glazers, and it was done.”
Ronaldo has also managed to make his debut at Old Trafford against Newcastle. The former Real Madrid player was also impressive by being able to score a brace in a 4-1 win for the Red Devils.
In that match, Ronaldo scored two goals. Now, his sweet gait is certainly expected to continue into other matches with Man United.
