Manchester United lost 4-2 to Leicester City in the eighth week of the 2021-2022 Premier League at the King Power Stadium on Saturday (16/10/2021). The bad result reportedly made Cristiano Ronaldo furious and tried to leave the field as quickly as possible.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men actually took the lead through Mason Greenwood (18′). However, Leicester were able to equalize through Youri Tielmans (31′).
Man United then trailed by Caglar Soyunju’s goal (78′), and Marcus Rasford (82′) equalized. It’s just that the home team scored two additional goals through Jamie Vardy (83′) and Patson Daka (90+1′).
After the match, Cristiano Ronaldo was reported by The Express as immediately trying to get off the field. He was furious. However, Solskjaer persuaded the Portuguese superstar to stay on the pitch to appreciate the fans who have provided support away from home.
Previously, Cristiano Ronaldo had done something similar when the Red Devils drew 1-1 against Everton. His behavior was even met with harsh criticism. Therefore, Solskjaer immediately intervened so that Cristiano Ronaldo remained on the field.
Regardless, Solskjaer admitted that his midfield wasn’t good enough at the time of the Leicester defeat. For him, the midfielders are less able to win duels in midfield.
“We weren’t good enough in the second half, not winning duels, not picking up the ball or winning the ball in good enough areas because we were so good at winning it and going forward and not doing it,” he said.
“Not good enough. I agree we didn’t defend well enough,” said Solskjaer.
In that match, Solskjaer played Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba as a midfield duo. It wasn’t as usual, where Fred and Scott McTominay used to take on the role of a midfield duo.
