Since Manchester United announced the return of Cristiano Ronaldo, most talk has been about what jersey number he will wear.
Edinson Cavani is currently donning the the famous number 7 shirt which Ronaldo has worn for most of his career. However, it now seem Cavani will take over Daniel Jame’s squad number. With the Welshman’s imminent departure set to free up the number 21 jersey.
Cavani wore the number 21 shirt for the majority of his time with the Uruguay national team. The former Paris Saint-Germain striker picking up the 21 for United will leave the iconic number 7 shirt to find its way back to Ronaldo, who has just rejoined the club from Juventus in a shocking transfer.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that Ronaldo will not sit on the bench on his return to the Old Trafford.
“Let’s get Cristiano [Ronaldo] signed first, he’s not signed to sit on the bench. He’s going to make us a better team.” Solskjaer said.
“Ronaldo is away with Portugal, they have three games, his last game is Tuesday (September7) and then we can get him back to Manchester and be involved as soon as possible.
Fans were little surprised to see Ronaldo leave Juventus especially after he said that he 100% committed to the club. The Italian giants were counting the former Real Madrid striker for the current campaign, but it appears that thet were also looking at an opportunity to let Ronaldo go this summer.
“I have been playing at the highest level for 18 years. All these conversations do not bother me. Whatever happens, it will be for the best.” Ronaldo said.
“Whther I stay or leave is not the most important thing now. I am focused on playing for the national team.” he added.
